A creative early-primary unit that combines basic bird science, english, art, maths, health and drama through hands-on puppet making. Children learn about bird features, beaks, feathers, habitats and basic needs while creating a range of bird puppets, including a parrot, owl, finger-puppet flock and peacock.
The unit also builds speaking, writing, sequencing, counting, sorting, planning and teamwork skills. Students finish by designing their own bird puppet, planning a simple story and putting on a puppet show, with extra writing and labelling activities included.
