Interest Based Learning Mini Units
Hands-on mini units for curious learners who love real-world projects, research, making, presenting and portfolio work.

This unit is for students who are interested in horses, native wildlife, pets, animal services, or future animal-related work. Rather than repeating veterinary content, the lessons branch into three different directions. The horse care strand looks at routine horse management, safety, gear, feeding, paddock planning, and presentation.
The wildlife rescue strand focuses on responsible rescue awareness, habitat threats, observation, emergency contacts, and public education. The pet business strand brings in entrepreneurial thinking through branding, service planning, pricing, customer care, scheduling, and promotional design.
The unit is practical and product-based. Every lesson has a clear finished task so the student is building something real rather than simply answering questions. By the end, the student can create one larger final product or three mini products: a horse care guide, a wildlife rescue awareness booklet, and a pet business brand pack.
This makes the unit useful for portfolio evidence, extension learning, or a polished sellable-style homeschool product.
Chocolate Creations is a hands-on homeschool elective made for US homeschooling students in Grades 5–12, interested in exploring the creative art of chocolate decorating and edible design. Students begin with simple projects such as chocolate bark, dipped treats, drizzles, shards, and moulded shapes, before extending into more advanced techniques like tempering chocolate, chocolate balloons, domes, curls, and structured decorations.
This unit blends food technology, design, science, art, and presentation skills as students plan, create, photograph, and reflect on their chocolate designs. With easy options for younger learners and extension tasks for advanced students, Chocolate Creations is a flexible, creative, and engaging unit that builds kitchen confidence, practical skills, and strong homeschool portfolio evidence.
Advanced Motorbikes, Diesel and Business Unit is a practical, real-world learning program that combines mechanics, workshop thinking, business development, history, geography, literacy and presentation skills. Students explore how bikes, engines, tools and mechanical systems work while also learning how these skills can connect to future work, customer service and small business planning.
Throughout the unit, students complete hands-on and research-based tasks such as analysing a bike system, comparing petrol, diesel and electric engines, documenting workshop tools, creating a diagnostic checklist, planning a build or modification project, designing a mechanic business, preparing customer job sheets, developing marketing materials and calculating profit. The unit also includes history and geography links, helping students understand how motorbikes have changed over time and how different places shape the way bikes are built, used and valued.
By the end of the unit, students create a professional portfolio that may include presentations, photos, diagrams, tool guides, diagnostic notes, process pages, a business plan, branding materials, quotes, financial calculations and a final reflection. This unit is designed to feel purposeful and practical, giving students strong evidence of technical thinking, communication, problem-solving, enterprise learning and real-world skill development.
