The Happy Days Living Literacy Approach is a gentle, story-rich Foundation English curriculum designed to help young children develop confidence in reading and writing through meaningful, repeated exposure rather than pressure or rushed instruction. Built around the Living Literacy approach, this curriculum recognises that children learn best when literacy is naturally woven into everyday life through stories, conversations, play, hands-on experiences and purposeful practice.
Instead of relying on lengthy formal lessons, children are introduced to letters, sounds and early reading skills through carefully planned alphabet chunks that allow them to begin building real words from the very beginning. Each unit combines explicit phonics instruction with practical activities, worksheets, notebook prompts and games that reinforce learning in a calm, enjoyable and developmentally appropriate way.
The 121-page curriculum follows a flexible structure, allowing families to complete approximately one hour of literacy each dayusing any combination of core lessons, notebook activities, hands-on learning or game worksheets. There is no single prescribed pathway. Parents are encouraged to adapt the curriculum to suit their child's readiness, interests and learning style while continually revisiting literacy concepts through gentle repetition.
