Project-Based Learning for High School Riders
Turn a passion for dirt bikes, BMX and pump tracks into meaningful high-school learning.
This 19-page interest-led elective has been created for students who learn best when their education connects with something they genuinely enjoy. Across 9 practical projects, students use their own riding, bikes and experiences as the basis for learning across multiple subject areas.
Students will film and analyse their riding technique, create a bike maintenance and safety guide, map and plan the fastest and safest line around a pump track, collect and analyse lap-time data, produce a riding-safety podcast, create a photographic story, develop a skills tutorial, investigate real motorsport career pathways and bring their work together in a final showcase portfolio.
Rather than completing disconnected worksheets, students create real products—videos, maps, graphs, podcasts, presentations, research and portfolios—while developing communication, digital literacy, problem-solving, reflection and practical skills.
Each project includes clear instructions, suggested digital tools, curriculum connections and a dedicated planning page to help students work increasingly independently. The unit includes explicit Year 9 learning links throughout.
